What’s streaming October 2024: New on Netflix, Prime Video and more

It’s spooky season, which means it’s time to enjoy some chills and thrills throughout October. Streamers are stepping up their haunt game, offering original films and shows along with classics to keep viewers perched on their couch all month long.

Netflix is serving a dose of real horror, releasing a documentary about Lyle and Erik Menendez as both brothers revisit the murder trial that shocked the nation.

Another title that’s sure to deliver chills is a new season of Unsolved Mysteries, which is now streaming on Netflix. It’s a companion piece for the Ryan Murphy series that has gone viral, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

For those looking for a dose of romance, Netflix has Lonely Planet, starring Liam Hemsworth and Laura Dern, in a film written and directed by Erin Brockovich writer Susannah Grant.

Prime Video is releasing the film that was highly buzzed about last spring: Zendaya’s Challengers follows the story of a spicy love triangle among tennis elites.

Show: Unsolved Mysteries: Volume 5 Air date: Oct. 2 Synopsis: In this new volume of the gripping documentary series, viewers will follow along for a new set of unsolved mysteries, including a legendary UFO crash, a puzzling double homicide and a chilling supernatural investigation.

Show: The Menendez Brothers Air date: Oct. 5 Synopsis: In 1996, Lyle and Erik Menendez were convicted for the murders of their parents in what became one of the most famous criminal cases of the late 20th century. In this documentary, both brothers revisit the trial that shocked the nation. If you watched the Ryan Murphy series, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, this doc is a must-watch. Show: Ali Wong: Single Lady Air date: Oct. 8 Synopsis: With her signature wit and humour, Ali Wong returns to the stage following her divorce, and no topics are off-limits.

Show: Outer Banks Season 4: Part 1 Air date: Oct. 10 Synopsis: Picking up after the season two finale, the Pogues return home to start living their best life, creating a life and business for themselves. But it’s not long before they’re back to doing what they do best: hunting for treasure, but this time with higher stakes and more to lose.

Film: Lonely Planet Air date: Oct. 11 Synopsis: From writer-director Susannah Grant, this romance follows a newly single novelist (Laura Dern) who attends an idyllic writers retreat in Morocco and finds an unexpected connection with a younger man (Liam Hemsworth). 

Show: The Lincoln Lawyer: Season 3 Air date: Oct. 17 Synopsis: Mickey (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) takes on a personal and potentially dangerous case when he defends the person accused of murdering Gloria Dayton, his friend and former client.

Show: The Diplomat: Season 2 Air date: Oct. 31 Synopsis: When a London bombing shatters her world, US diplomat Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) faces the ultimate test as her suspicions reach the top levels of the British government.

Film: Challengers  Air date: Oct. 1 Synopsis: Zendaya stars as Tashi, a tennis player turned coach, who has transformed her husband (Mike Faist) from a mediocre player into a world-famous grand slam champion. To jolt him out of his recent losing streak, she makes him play a challenger event, but tensions run high when he finds himself against the once-promising, now burnt-out Patrick (Josh O’Connor), his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend.

Show: Citadel: Diana Air date: Oct. 10 Synopsis: Citadel: Diana takes place in Milan in 2030. Eight years prior, the independent global spy agency Citadel was destroyed by their powerful enemy. Since then, Diana Cavalieri (Matilda De Angelis), an undercover Citadel agent, has been trapped behind enemy lines. When she finally sees a way out, the only way to do so is by trusting an unexpected ally, Edo Zani (Lorenzo Cervasio).

Film: Knox Goes Away Air date: Oct. 8 Synopsis: Michael Keaton directs and stars in this thriller as John Knox, a hit man attempting to make amends before his recently discovered dementia takes over. Aided by a trusted friend (Al Pacino) with his own shady past, Knox races against the police to save his estranged son (James Marsden) from a vengeance-fueled mistake.

Show: Abbott Elementary Season 4 Air date: Oct. 10 Synopsis: Following the events of season’s three’s long-awaited union, the Abbott Elementary gang is back together – but how will Janine and Gregory’s budding romance pan out once they return to their respective classrooms?
